The Art of the Easy Win
The Art of the Easy Win
Some 6 months ago, my manager presented me with this concept. Whilst the idea is unlikely to be new to you, the framing might be.
We’ve all heard the basic theory that goes into this: make your bed first thing so you can tick something off of your list and get that serotonin boost early in the morning.
The concept of ‘Easy Wins’ delves a little deeper: What small and easily achievable things can you get done today to give you a sense of accomplishment?
This will look different to everyone.
Some examples include:
For me, getting the washing up done can sometimes feel like a very daunting task. For you, this might be a really quick and easy thing. So if it works for you, add it to your “Easy Wins” list.
I like to go around my room, bin in hand, and throw all my rubbish away. This can be packaging, bottles, anything like that. I don’t have to spend hours deep cleaning, hoovering or anything extra- but- my room is cleaner, tidier, and I can tick that off my to do list. Think low effort, high impact.
I’m intentionally excluding things like ‘putting on a load of laundry’ in this. When you think about it, that is only a fraction of the task. You then have to take it out of the machine once its done, hang it up and put it away. Easy wins need to be simple, one-off tasks that take you a few minutes but leave you with a big green tick at the end of them.
Small actions, big rewards.
What are some tasks that you could add to your easy wins list?
Totally agree with making your bed in the morning! Start the day as you mean to go on.
