The Art of Sundays
The Art of Sundays ☕️
The hustle culture we’re currently entrenched in has spat out this concept of a “Sunday Reset”. This idea would have us straightening up our entire home, doing a weeks worth of food shopping, meal preps and to do lists, and spending a good four hours on self development. All to prepare for the week ahead. If you absolutely live for a Sunday reset, then please, carry on! This post was intended to reach the TikTok-brainwashed-persons (with whom I can very much identify).
Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of refreshing your space for the upcoming week, but not all day and definitely not on one out of the two you spend not working!!
I get as much tidying and organising as possible out of the way Friday after work (if I can help it, sometimes this has to be pushed back to Saturday morning) - and then I have the entire weekend for R&R! If you read ‘The Art of Loving Your Mondays’, you’ll know that I like to view my week as starting on Friday at 5pm. By re-setting my space on Friday after work (instead of all day on Sunday), I am setting myself up for MY weekend, rather than the working week.
I try and plan most of my social events for Saturday. On Sunday, I love to lie in, chill out, light my favourite candle (I have one called ‘Sunday Mornings’ and it’s coffee scented - you have to romanticise your life guys) and watch my favourite show/movie/read a book. I’ll also typically cook a scrumptious breakfast and make a very sugary iced coffee.
On the Sundays I don’t feel like spending inside, I love going for a jog or seeing a friend for coffee. This summer I really enjoyed grabbing an iced latte and heading to the park or sitting int the coffee shop to read. It all sounds very Pinterest, but those are such precious memories of time that I spent with myself. In the colder months I loveee going for a roast with a friend or cooking one at home. One of my friends has a group of work colleagues who go on a walk through a nearby woods until they find a pub to have their roast in and I’ll be damned if that isn’t the most adorable thing you’ve ever heard. Harry Potter is also, of course, a must.
I’ve found these types of Sundays set me up ready for the week ahead in a much more calm and relaxed fashion than when I spend the whole day hoovering. Just some food for thought…
What are some of your favourite Sunday traditions? Are you a re-setter or a relaxer?
